Car crash footage
Go to the site and select two radically different types of cars for front crash test viewing , one with a short front end and one with a really long front end. After viewing both videos be prepared to answer the following question: Who has a better chance of survival and why? Use the words displacement, speed velocity and acceleration in your answer.
Smart car crash
There has been a lot of interest in Smart Cars and questions about safety. Watch the video here and be ready to comment about displacement, velocity and acceleration.

More help with Dimensional Analysis (Not for Conceptual Students)
Here is another tutorial on DA with physics units. This is required for anyone who received less than 80% on the CP Physics Quiz 1 Shockwave software is required to view the tutorial. See tech if you don't have it or seek out another tutorial.

Powers of Ten Video
This is old, but powerful. Scroll down a ways to get to the video. It's ok to use headphones. Try and pause every power of ten to digest the scale. Here is the link.
Tutorial on Significant figures
Here is the link: http://www.chem.sc.edu/faculty/morgan/resources/sigfigs/
Please use the tutorial and other web based sources to understand how to use significant figures. Why you ask? Knowing what you don't know (uncertainty) is a benchmark for strength and good judgement.
Ex. Your car gets 30 mi/gal and you need to go 320 mi. Loading (measuring) 11 gallons into the tank will only sometimes get you there. huh?

Welcome Back to Dayton
It's great to have everyone back. Please bookmark this site as I plan to use it. I look forward to working with everyone, particularly students and parents who have never shown an interest in physics. There is much to discover! Your assignment for tonight is to create a google account at http://www.google.com If you have a gmail account then you already have a google account and may use it. Creating a Google account does not mean you have to use G mail. You may continue using your preferred mail server. However, I will be checking that you have created a Google account. We will be using the account and the google applications throughout the school year. Once you have created your Google account fill out the Google Form that I will post below. Thanks and I am looking forward to a great year!
Sincerely,
Mr. Davison
